The London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Renga Ensemble collaborates with members of the folk group
Bellowhead to present non-traditional arrangements of traditional folk tunes. Join the ensemble on The Clore Ballroom Floor at Royal Festival Hall, Wednesday 12 May, 6.00pm for a performance incorporating jazz and classical influences into folk music.
The Renga Ensemble is a group of London Philharmonic Orchestra musicians who collaborate with musicians from outside the classical mainstream. Over the past few years the group has worked with jazz musicians Tim Garland, Stan Sulzman and Nikki Iles, folk singer June Tabor, the Indian percussionists of the Karnataka College of Percussion and have spent early April on tour in India.
Bellowhead have been performing together for over 5 years now, winning a host of praise, including four prizes for Best Live Group at the BBC folk awards. They have released an EP and 2 full length albums (with a third to be released this autumn) and are widely recognised for producing eclectic arrangements of folk music, that bring elements of jazz, folk, cabaret and music hall into their performances.
