We regret to inform you that Yannick Nézet-Séguin is suffering from severe flu and has had to withdraw from this evening’s concert. We are very grateful to Lisa Batiashvili who will play/direct Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in the first half of the concert, and to Matthew Coorey for stepping in at very short notice to conduct Mahler’s Symphony No. 9.
Torn between America and Austria in his final years, Mahler would return from New York to his Alpine hut to compose in the summer. The idyllic peace he experienced there permeates the Ninth Symphony – a remarkable sense of homecoming, but marked with the indelible imprint of final farewell.
Listen to Yannick Nézet-Séguin speaking about the challenge of dealing with emotion while performing music.
Please note that the Violin Concerto has been changed from the originally advertised Bartók No.1.
